This webinar is presented in English for interpreters of languages other than Spanish (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Vietnamese, etc.). All languages and levels are welcome.
In some cultures, talking about sex and gender is considered taboo. Therefore, unless you are an ally, part of the LGBTQIA+ community, or know someone who is part of it, you may not be aware of the terms used by this sexual minority.
As translators and interpreters, we work with people of different cultures and backgrounds and translate many documents for them. To better serve this community, we must understand the nuances of this sexual minority’s terminology and concepts.
During this 2-hour *live* webinar, participants will become familiar with basic concepts and terminology about LGBTQIA+ in English.
What is included in this webinar?
Students will receive a link to a personal learning site they can access for 3 months. On this site students will find:
- Webinar recording
- Presentation handout
- Terminology list
- Document for sight translation practice
- 10-question, multiple-choice test
In order to receive a Certificate of completion with CEUs (2 DSHS), participants must attend the entire 2-hour webinar. If they miss the webinar, students can watch the recording and score over 75% on a 10-question multiple-choice test. Once they pass the test, they will receive a certificate of completion with CEUs within 48 hours.
